The fabrication of self-ordered anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) by anodization of Al foils and pure aluminum in sulfuric acid solution was investigated. The influences of anodizing variables, such as applied voltage, the pretreatment of the starting material and sulfuric acid concentration, on the average pore properties of AAO were systematically investigated using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM). The analyses performed from FE-SEM images showed that formation of porous AAO is affected by the action of not performing a proper pretreatment on the starting materials. The pore formation can be obtained on the starting materials treated with proper pretreatment anodized in sulfuric acid solution at lower anodizing temperature, preferably below than room temperature.en_US
