dc.description.abstractSolid waste is produced and accumulated due to human activities. The waste will bring about severe environmental problem unless an appropriate solid waste management system is applied. In this context, it is reasonable to recover energy from solid waste through a variety of processes such as combustion, pyrolysis and gasification. Base on the waste hierarchy energy recovery one of the method to minimize waste beside reuse and recycle. Therefore, in this study, fuel characteristic of selected solid waste (yard waste, glass, scrap tire, residential waste) were determined and base on the analysis the capability of the waste as a fuel identified by comparing the fuel data with coal. Base on the result obtained, Coal has 9.4% and scrap tire 1.0% moisture content. Here proven that scrape tire capable for use as fuel because lower the moisture content increases the heating value. On the other hand scrape tire has highest volatile matter compared the other three solid waste, 39.2%. Higher the volatile content, easier the fuel gets ignited and completes its combustion. Scrap tire was highest energy contributor compare the other solid waste which giving out a calorific value of 32.8MJ/kg. Compare with coal scrap tire has higher calorific value. At the same time, energy triangle obtained the combustion possibility of solid waste. Tire shaded region falls inside the coal shaded region which the shaded region indicates combustion possibility and here it’s proven that tire has the potential to be an alternative fuel.en_US
