Abstract: | Dye is an important chemical that present in our life. It can be used in textile, plastic, leather, paper industries as additives. Azo dye with complex chemical structure that causing it hardly can be removed, has accounted for 50% of all the commercial dye. Ozonation process, with the utilization of ozone, can decolourize the dye by mineralizing it to become smaller fragments, which are not harmful to the human being. Advanced oxidation process in the other way can enhance the decolourisation process of the dye by using H2O2 that can fasten the cleavage of the ozone. There are several analytical experiments to determine the efficiency of the treatment process, which include COD test, BOD test, UV-Vis test and also FTIR test. Those dyes that have been selected are Reactive Red 120, Reactive Black 5, Reactive Green 19 and Remazol Brilliant Blue. They are selected since they are usually been used in the factory industries. They show different results in the test with their different complexity in chemical structure. Reactive Green will be the easiest type of dyes to be decolourised whereas Reactive Red is the hardest. Advanced Oxidation Process can perform better than ozonation. There will have complete degradation of azo bond with naphthalene and benzene ring unable to be degraded completely at the end for both processes. |
