Abstract: Waste settlement process in the sanitary landfill is an important aspect that should consider in managing the landfill. Factor affecting the waste settlement should be considered to estimate the rate of waste settlement. The study about a factors affected the waste settlement run at Pulau Burung Sanitary Landfill(PBSL). PBSL used a semi-aerobic system which process of biodegradation of waste faster than anaerobic system. Total of 9 locations in the study set up throughout the disposal area. The area is divided into 3 categories based on age of cells to each disposal area. This area is the old age of more than 3 years, cells intermediate between 3 to 1 year and new cells that are less than 1 year. Data of waste settlement measured used THEODOLITE with EDM (electromagnetic distance measurement). Data was taken for every 2 weeks for 6 months. Precipitation data was taken every day to analysis the effects of precipitation to waste settlement at PBSL. Result from this study showed waste settlement process for new cell more rapidly than old cell. Study result also found that the rate of waste settlement more rapidly the week that has a high precipitation.
