International Postgraduate Conference On Engineering (IPCE 2010), 16th - 17th October 2010 organized by Centre for Graduate Studies, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) at School of Mechatronic Engineering, Pauh Putra Campus, Perlis, Malaysia.en_US
With market condition today, the economics are such that users and engineer are looking for the best fit for the application at the most reasonable cost in purchasing induction motors. Generally, 0.35mm thickness of material can outstand 0.5mm thickness of material in terms of better performance in losses reduction. This paper presents the comparison of the 0.35mm and 0.5mm thickness of material designed by using FEM software to simulate the 0.5HP AC induction motor. The 0.5HP three phase induction motor is compared in terms of torque, and rotor loss. Simulation analysis shows that the 0.35mm thicknesses steel sheet shows decrease of 18.8% for the rotor loss and increase of 4.19% of efficiency compared to the 0.5mm steel sheet.en_US
