Abstract: Ferulic acid in paddy straw was investigated in this study due to its high potential in several field. Ferulic acid in paddy straw was refluxed by using alkaline hydrolysis and was further extracted by using ethyl acetate to recover the ferulic acid compound. This process was optimized by using central composite design (CCD). The independent factors involved were temperature, NaOH concentration and time of the extraction. The optimized processes of ferulic acid extraction produced 6.56 mg/g of ferulic acid at 3.90M of NaOH at 1200C for 2hr.
