Abstract: In this paper, the TCP congestion control mechanisms are discussed. There are four intertwined mechanisms defined in the Internet standards track protocol, which are slow start, congestion avoidance, fast retransmit and fast recovery. By studying the congestion control techniques used in TCP implementation, a beginner in the computer networking field can improves the understanding on the TCP working operation in a network.
