Abstract: This report is determining the heat treatment effect on material mechanical properties. Mild steel is the most common form of steel as its price is relatively low while it provides material properties that are acceptable for many applications. It can be heat treated to produce the desired microstructure and properties. The desired results are accomplished by heating and cooling at the specified temperature. The annealing and normalizing heat treatments method on mild steel have been investigated in this paper. The purpose of this study is investigating the mechanical properties of mild steel after full annealing and normalizing. After heat treatment process, the mild steel’s microstructure has been changed to pearlite and ferrite. The elongation of mild steel after full annealing process is higher than normalizing process. However, the ultimate strength and hardness of mild steel after normalizing is greater than full annealing.
