Abstract: In achieving a better environmental performance of firms and economy, technological innovation is one of the important key factors. Implementation of technologies that substantially diminish the environmental intensity of production leads to the significant reduction of environmental impacts from industrial production. Environmental technology is a concept including several types of technologies and processes, such as cleaning technologies, pollution control technologies, waste management, clean processes, recycling and clean products. In the promotion of environmentally sound technologies and sustainable development of the country, the government of Malaysia has established the necessary legal and institutional arrangements for environmental protection. Some aspects of pollution control to be considered are; to find possible modifications in the process line that can minimize waste generation, to see pollution prevention as part of the production, and to consider recycling options as far as possible. Environmental technologies may lead to lower production costs if materials and energy consumption are reduced. The adoption of environmental technology may improve the quality of products, the relation with the local administration and the motivation of the staff. However, these benefits have to be compared to the costs of adoption and other barriers such as uncertainty and risk, and high investment costs in capital good embodying the clean technology. There is a wide range of factors that speed up or slow down the adoption of environmental technologies. This paper discusses factors influencing the implementation of environmental technology among manufacturing sectors. The focus is specifically concerning manufacturing, whereby pollution emissions from the manufacturing industries are main determinants for the general pollution affecting environment. There are a lot of studies about technology adoption, but the studies on environmental technology adoption are quite recent and empirical research on the adoption of environmental technologies in developing countries is limited. A few papers related to environmental technology adoption to have been reviewed. Eventhough there are many factors affecting the environmental technologies are found, the significant factors are still vague. In a nut shell, the factors affecting the adoption of environmental technology can still be argued.
