Abstract: Hydroxyapatite (HA) is widely used in medical fields especially as a bone substitute, due to its good biocompatibility, bioactivity, high osteoconductive and nontoxic. The production of synthetic HA needs very complicated and sophisticated technique used in the synthesizing. whereas extraction of HA from the natural bone is biologically safe and economic since bovine bone is easy to obtained. In this study, HA powder are extrated from clean cow bone by treatment with sodium hydroxide and subsequently heated at 850c. Protien free HA bone were then ground into fine powder by using planetary ball milling for several hours. The phase of the powder obtained was investigated by X-Ray diffraction technique. The particles size and thernal properties of HA powder were analyzed by using malvern Mastersizer machine and Differential Thermal Analysis / Thermal Gravimetric (DTA/TG) analyzer respectively. The Scanning Electron Microsopy Machine was used to observed microstructure distribution of HA powder. White powder HA with average of particle size distribution of 12.8 the was obtained with.
