Abstract: Design of Experiment (DOC) is an important tool in decision making especially in the manufacturing environment. The tool was initiated by R,A Fisher more than 70 years ago, but only begins to spread widely within manufacturing industry only in the 1980. Ocniclii Taguchi Is the one who is responsible in introducing DOB to engineers and the approach is known us Taguchi Method. Although the method is said as low resolution and less focus on interaction effect compared to Classical DOE and Response Surface Method (RSM), this approach is relatively simple and a good starting point for engineers to appreciate what DOE is all about. Furthermore, it is also a good tool for screening experiment, This approach is also sufficient for characterization and optimization when the main effect is dominant and only discrete factors are considered. Therefore, this paper shows an example on how Taguchi Method is applied by using data from previous work for the purpose of introduction to DOE. The experiment was design using L9 Orthogonal Array where 4 factors tested at 3 levels. This paper can be a quick reference to start utilizing DOE for beginners.
