Abstract: | The paper industry always faced a problem with availability of raw material. The agriculture residue can be an alternative raw material to produce paper. These residues are such as rice straw and sugarcane bagasse. These residues can easily obtain especially in Perlis. To determine their suitability for using as a raw material in paper production, these residues were analyzed by SEM-EDS. The results showed the silica content in sugarcane bagasse is 9.78 % and 36.14 % in rice straw. The residues were pulped to produce sheet of papers. The papers were also analyzed and compare with several commercial papers. From the results, it showed that sugarcane bagasse can produce a high quality of paper compare to rice straw. |
