Abstract: | This investigation is deals with the preparing Aluminium - Tin Alloy from certain chemical composition. The casting process that had been used was CO2 sand moulding using 13 kg silica sand combined with minimum 7% and maximum 10% of sodium silicate and proper application of CO2 gases. This investigation was separated into two stages, first stage is casting production and second stage is laboratory analysis. In the first stage, the certain amount ingot of Aluminium and ingot of tin were placed inside a huge crucible and melted inside the electric furnace at the temperature around 925 degree C as a little bit higher that melting temperature of Aluminium (660 degree C). The purpose of the increasing of the heating temperature was to make sure the final result of the molten metal of Aluminium – Tin was formed in high wetting ability and reduced entrapment of gases during the pouring process. The second stage of the investigation is involving the evaluation of microstructure and properties of the product in as cast and heat treated conditions. The major concern of the investigation was the mechanical properties of the Aluminium – Tin Alloy involving the tension strength, yield strength, metal composition and micro hardness. The tensile strength was measured by preparing the tensile specimen of ATSM standards in longitudinal direction using Universal Testing Machine (UTM). The micro hardness was carried out by Vickers Micro hardness Tester on HV scale. Microstructure aspects of the investigation essentially involved observing the alloys under Optical Microscope and SEM to see the result of metal composition of the alloy particles. |
