As in all developing countries, cities in Malaysia are facing serious problems of environmental pollution mainly caused by the insufficient and inefficient final disposal of their generated solid wastes. This has lead to another major problem; that is inadequate place for the trash. This study shows a systematic approach in solid waste management in Taiping landfill, however it managing domestic waste only. Some old part of the landfill has been rehabilitated to close it properly as it has reached the life span, while another new phase were built to be functioned as a semi-aerobic sanitary landfill. The whole landfill system also has been upgraded to accomplish the standards needed for a sanitary landfill. In order to maintain the sanitary functions and at the same time to provide a long-term monitoring on the landfill effects towards surrounding environment, this study will also provide a general view on a rehabilitation of a landfill.en_US
