International Conference on X-Rays and Related Techniques in Research and Industry (ICXRI 2010) jointly organized by Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and X-Ray Application Malaysia Society (XAPP), 9th - 10th June 2010 at Aseania Resort Langkawi, Malaysia.en_US
Functionally graded materials were fabricated using Hydroxyapatite (HAP) and F75 cobalt alloy. Both of these two materials are important in creating biomaterials that is compatible to the human tissue and at the same time have high strength and hardness. The particles size of HAP and F75 were 7.59um and 13.18um respectively. Both raw materials undergo Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) to check the morphology and elements content qualitatively. The fabrication technique consists of mixing, pressing and sintering. The pressure used was 511 MPa and sintering temperature were 1200ºC and 1300ºC. The microstructure of boundary area between layers was observed using SEM. The microstructure of functionally graded materials varied gradually according to the composition of HAP and F75.en_US
