Nilai kesantunan berbahasa dalam komunikasi pengurusan air muka: Analisis pragmatik berasaskan teori relevans

Abstract

Language politeness is important especially in the aspect of communication. This paper discusses the value of language politeness in facial expression management communication in the text of Malay film genre which will be explained in detailed through pragmatic knowledge based using Relevance Theory (1986). There are four facial expression management and its concepts will be discussed and analyzed, first; overhaul facial expression, second; protection of facial expression, third; demands of facial expression, fourth; giving of facial expression. The concepts of facial expression are classified based on the Stella Ting-Toomey Theory which is the Facial Expression Management Theory (1988) that will be elaborated further by refering to the Relevance Theory by Sperber and Wilson (1986). Relevance theory emphasizes the role of cognitive, involving context, effect of contextual (cognitive) and processing efforts.
