Compressed image transmission over wireless channel

Abstract

Image compression has played a vital role in image communication system. Image compression are needed in data communication because it minimize the transmission bandwidth usage, save time, and save storage space [1]. In this paper, we are concerned with the study of compressed image transmission performance over wireless channel. The technique chosen for image compression was Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT). The compressed image was represented with binary data stream and was transmitted into communication system which consist of modulator, wireless channel and demodulator. The medium of wireless channel was added with Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) to simulate the background noise. The proposed system was simulated using communication toolbox in MATLAB software. The performance of transmitted coded image was evaluated based on the bit error rate (BER).
