Timah Tasoh Lake is surrounded by various types of land use activities ranging from industrial, agricultural and quarrying activities. These activities will affect the water quality and a threat to the ecosystem of the lake. A study was conducted in Timah Tasoh catchment areas with the aim to investigate the water quality parameters such as physical, chemical and biological in the Timah Tasoh Lake. The water quality study involved in-situ measurement and laboratory analysis. National Water Quality Standard (NWQS) for Malaysia was applied. The study concludes that the water quality was varied between stations and tends to decrease from upstream towards the lake (downstream).

A recycling programme study was conducted in residential areas in Kangar, Perlis. This study was conducted to identify the main factors that influence community participation in recycling programme. It is also expected to help the local authorities in dealing with solid waste disposal problems. A total of 80 respondents was given the questions and the sampling was done using a convenience sampling method. Results from data analysis found that knowledge on recycling is one of the factors affects the activity of the recycling program. Knowledge through environmental education can help increase recycling activities where it focuses on the importance of recycling in details. Therefore, those who do recycling activities are influenced by information from the learning efforts of formal and informal education.

This paper presents the application of regression analysis in measuring the relationship between rainfall area and Timah Tasoh reservoir level. The trend lines of the rainfall data on a monthly basis were checked. The data collected from the year 2007 until 2012 were run using JMP software to obtain the regression model. Result showed that Wang Kelian has high humidity in Perlis and significantly has contributed to high level of Timah Tasoh reservoir.

The potential use of Pleurotus spent mushroom compost as a biosorbent for Fe(II) removal from aqueous solutions was investigated. The experiments were conducted in a fixed-bed column to investigate the influence of various parameters such as flow rate, bed depth and initial concentration on the biosorption of Fe(II). The results of breakthrough time, exhaustion time as well as the Fe(II) uptake and percentage of removal are highly influenced by the flow rate, bed depth and the initial Fe(II) concentration. The results demonstrated that the breakthrough time and exhaustion time increased with decreases in flow rate and initial Fe(II) concentration. Conversely, the breakthrough and exhaustion time decreased as the bed depth decreases.
