Abstract: The project is intended to reduce a major portion of unrecyclable materials especially paper and plastics are left uncollected from domestic wastes due to lack of efficient and economical waste sorting mechanism. This project is designed to segregate plastic and papers which would be the pioneering step for recycling. LDR sensor has been used to detect opaque or non-opaque objects. Webcam is used to capture the image of the object. Images captured by the webcam are processed to recognize the object. Different object with various shapes and size are used for experimentation process. Output from both LDR sensor and camera will be used to rotate the bin to its respective position to recover the object. The developed vision system is trained and tested in a controlled lighting environment. Experimental results validate the effectiveness of the developed system.
